Dear UNT College of Music faculty, staff, and students,
I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Jamey Kelley will be joining our distinguished college this coming fall as an Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education. Dr. Kelley currently serves as the Program Coordinator of Music Education at Florida International University in Miami.
Dr. Kelley earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Belmont University, Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the Pennsylv...ania State University, and Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Washington.
Dr. Kelley's research interests include singing accuracy, participation in music education, aural skills development, music teacher education, social psychology of music education, and gender issues in music education. Dr. Kelley has presented his research at national and international conferences including the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition, NAfME’s Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference, American Educational Research Association Annual Conference, International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education, and the Society for Music Perception and Cognition National Conference.
Prior to his appointment at FIU, Dr. Kelley completed his doctoral work in music education at the University of Washington, teaching several classes in music teacher education such as secondary choral methods and assessment in music education. He was also the associate conductor of the University of Washington Men’s Glee Club. In addition to his teaching responsibility, Dr. Kelley served as the administrative assistant to the Journal of Research in Music Education.
Dr. Kelley comes to UNT with considerable music teaching experience in K-12 settings. With ten years of experience, he has taught secondary choral music, AP theory, and general music in Tennessee, Illinois, and Maryland. He has also received training in Kodaly, Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze, and Smithsonian Folkways World Music Pedagogy.
Dr. Kelley's faculty duties will begin in August 2017. His teaching assignment will include music education methods, choral conducting, and graduate courses in music education.
