The Emerging Teacher Institute’s Special Education program is committed to making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities and their families. Our priority is to effect change in how people with disabilities experience life, by increasing success in school, their workplaces, and their communities. We develop teachers to make that difference. Whether you are thinking about becoming a special education teacher or specialize in another teaching area, the special education program can help you realize your goals. Along with Interdisciplinary Studies coursework, the special education program offers certification in EC-12 special education. With these credentials, you can work in a number of educational settings serving students with mild to moderate disabilities, inclusion classrooms, team teach classrooms, self-contained classrooms, functional life skills classrooms, and preschool programs for children with disabilities.
