Biography

Jan Philipp Klaus is in his second year as a PhD student at the University of North Texas. His primary research interests include earnings management, the quality of financial reporting numbers, the information content of financial and tax disclosures, and overall interaction of tax and financial reporting. Philipp has recently developed an interest in the taxation of financial institutions.

Prior to starting his doctorate studies at UNT in the Fall of 2015, Philipp completed both his undergrad and masters' degree in accounting and finance at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Duisburg, Germany. Philipp also worked as an auditor during his studies in Germany. After completing his Master of Business Administration degree at Colorado State University-Pueblo in 2012, he worked as a Tax Accountant for the accounting firm Clayton & McKervey, P.C. in Detroit, Michigan for one year before he decided to pursue a Ph.D. Philipp earned his CPA license (active) in the state of Kentucky and is a member of several professional organizations both in the U.S. and in Germany. Philipp is a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, enjoys traveling, anything soccer-related, spending time with friends, and last but not least taking his snowboard to the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
