Biography

Dr. Lew Taylor is currently Professor and Chair of Management at the University of North Texas College of Business in Denton, Texas.  Dr. Taylor was Chair of the Department of Management from 1992-1999, Founding Director of the Murphy Center from 1999-2003, and Regents Professor from 2003-2011.  His term as Chair will end August of 2020.  Dr. Taylor was honored to give the commencement speech at UNT graduation about integrity.  In addition, he was Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Purdue University — German International Graduate School of Management & Organization in Hannover, Germany, 2005-2006.  Dr. Taylor was honored to receive the 2010 Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year, a national scholar organization for business students.  He was honored as Educator of the Year - 2011, and Outstanding Educator - 2002-2004, 2010-2012, 2011-2013 for the Management Department.

As a behavioral scientist, Dr. Taylor researches in decision-making, strategy, and other behavior topics.  His publications appear in a number of journals including Decision Sciences, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal, Group & Organization Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior Management, and Organizational Behavior & Human Decision Processes.  He serves on the editorial boards of four research journals in his discipline.

Since 1978, Dr. Taylor served as consultant to a number of organizations, including AAFES (Army/Air Force Exchange Service), General Motors, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, The United States Air Force, and Walmart.  He primarily works with owners/CEOs and top managers focusing on strategic decision-making, change, and leadership with integrity.  A change agent, Dr. Taylor helps leaders and organizations realize significant improvements in vision, skills, incentives, resources, and action plans.  His consulting work has taken him all over the USA, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, and Asia.

A former Captain and fighter pilot with the United States Marine Corps, Dr. Taylor also served as LtCol fighter/reconnaissance pilot with the Air National Guard/Air Force Reserve.

Dr. Taylor was honored to serve from 2009-2011 as Professor in the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities at Purdue University, a national program for our disabled military veterans seeking to start their own businesses.  He was invited to return to this duty for 2015 and beyond.  Dr. Taylor also serves as an advocate for Wounded Warriors.
