Description
The Intermediate Systems Sustainment Management (LOG 206) course is a follow-on DAU course of instruction pertaining to DoD weapon system sustainment. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of Logistics Sustainment Management principles and fundamentals including the roles, responsibilities and functions of a Logistician assigned to a major weapon systems acquisition program. The course explains the role of Life Cycle Logistician during sustainment phase of a weapon system’s life cycle; identifies concepts, policies, and practices of logistics/supply chain management as they apply to new and legacy systems during sustainment phase of their respective life cycles; identifies best practices in developing and implementing Performance Based Logistics support; explains Materiel Availability, Materiel reliability, and Mean Down Time principles, relates the principles contained in recent DoD guidance with regard to Logistics Sustainment Enablers; and explains the concepts of Systems Sustainment as described by DoDI 5000.02 para 3.9.

The target audience includes:
  • LCL career field seeking Level II DAWIA certification
  • Individuals recently assigned responsibility to plan, acquire, and field the logistics support infrastructure for DoD systems and equipment

    Members of other acquisition career fields may also take this course, which can serve as a foundation for acquisition planning considerations for DoD systems to be designed, manufactured, fielded, and then supported.
