The CMMI (Capability Maturity ModelR Integration) Web site provides general information about CMMI, the latest models and modules, how to get training, help with adoption, information about appraisals, and background information about the CMMI project, and provides insight into how mature configurations processes are defined.
According to their website, the CMMI Acquisition Module builds on relevant best practices extracted from the Capability Maturity ModelR Integration (CMMIR) Framework, defining "effective and efficient practices for government acquisition organizations. Acquisition best practices are focused inside the acquisition organization to ensure the acquisition is conducted effectively, and outside the acquisition organization as it conducts project monitoring and control of its suppliers. These best practices provide a foundation for acquisition process discipline and rigor that enables product and service development to be repeatedly executed with high levels of ultimate acquisition success. This report contains the acquisition practices that should be performed by government acquisition organizations acquiring systems and/or services. These practices, however, can also be used by non-government organizations to improve their acquisition practices. This report does not contain prescribed implementation approaches for achieving acquisition best practices. Instead, the proven content of the CMMI Framework is used as a base and amplifications specific to the acquisition process are added. - CMMI-SE/SW V1.1 contains material that integrates systems engineering and software engineering, and is an update to CMMI-SE/SW V1.02.
- CMMI-SE/SW/IPPD V1.1 contains material that integrates systems engineering, software engineering, and Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD), and is an update to CMMI-SE/SW/IPPD V1.02. When compared to CMMI-SE/SW, CMMI-SE/SW/IPPD has the following differences:
- two additional process areas covering IPPD: Organizational Environment for Integration (OEI) and Integrated Teaming (IT)
- an enhanced version of the Integrated Project Management (IPM) process area that contains IPPD-related practices
- amplifications in some of the SE/SW process areas that address IPPD-specific concerns
