Fiscal Year 2016 FOIA Data Available Now on FOIA.gov

OIP is pleased to announce that it has uploaded the Fiscal Year 2016 Annual FOIA Report data for all 115 agencies subject to the FOIA onto FOIA.gov. The FY2016 Annual FOIA Report data shows that in the face of unprecedented demand agencies processed over 700,000 requests for a second year in a row.

OIP Issues New Guidance on the Definition of a Record and the Processing of Records Responsive to a Request

New guidance addresses the impact of American Immigration Lawyers Association v. EOIR, 830 F.3d 667 (D.C. Cir. 2016) on the practice of “scoping” non-responsive records and provides principles for agencies to follow when determining what constitutes a record.
