File Online Forms

Although electronic filing of forms is not mandatory, the USPTO urges all applicants and registrants to consider this option. For all electronic submissions, receipt in the USPTO is confirmed immediately through a success screen, and a separate e-mail summary of the filing is also provided. Electronic filing ensures that no papers are lost, and because no manual data entry is required, the quality of data within the USPTO database is greatly enhanced.

Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS)

Use TEAS to make both domestic and international trademark filings over the internet using online forms. A range of domestic forms are offered, covering all aspects of the application and registration process. Forms for filing under the Madrid Protocol are also presented. Payment is made by credit card, deposit account, or electronic funds transfer.

Highlights

Quick Definition: Filing Receipts

When an application is submitted via TEAS, the Office immediately issues a confirmation of filing via e-mail that includes the serial number and filing date, and a summary of all the data provided by applicant in the application. This serves as evidence of filing. Applicants who file paper applications receive printed filing receipts that list the application serial number and filing date, the mark, the applicant's name, the goods and/or services, the filing bases, if available; the international class(es), and the address to be used for correspondence.
