Facilities Engineering Career Field Expansion:

On July 1, 2009, LTG Van Antwerp, the Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), issued the guidance for assimilation of Army civilian positions into the Facilities Engineering (FE) Career Field. The message provided his guidance to establish consistency in the Army’s identification of positions that support USACE.. The message also directed the Army and the USACE to complete the assimilation of FE positions by 21 November 2009. FE Career Field "members" occupying those positions will have 24 months to complete the certification requirements.

The assimilation as many as 9,000 FE positions may have a significant impact on the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) due to increased throughput of students taking FE 201 and FE 301. FE 201 is a DL course, the effects will be minor. FE 301, a one-week resident course, will have a surge requirement for approximately 2 years.  John McElhenny, LCIC, is developing options on how to best meet this training requirement.

Benefit/Value

This is the second major expansion of the Facilities Engineering Career Field.

Expiration Date
07/15/2009
