Important Security Announcement
The Embassy does not permit large bags to be brought inside.  Bring a hard copy of all documents and photos that you need for your appointment.  You will be able to store your cell phones with the Embassy guards, but we advise not to bring any large bags, backpacks, suitcases, or packages, as there is limited storage with the guards.

Passports
Passport applications must be made in person at the Embassy’s American Citizen Services office.  New passports are generally issued two to three weeks after application.  Limited validity emergency passports may be issued in special circumstances.

Acceptable Payment
Our cashier can accept payments in U.S. dollar cash, Chinese RMB cash, traveler’s checks, or credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, and Discover (in U.S. dollars only).

We DO NOT take personal checks.  Please click here for some frequently used consular fees.

Appointment System
To better serve customers and reduce waiting times, the following routine services are by appointment only:  passport renewals, reporting the birth of a child, notarial services, and marriageability affidavits.

Please click here to access the appointment calendar.  Please print your appointment confirmation or save it on your computer for future tracking.  If you are applying for a passport, please fill out your application online using  State Department forms.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:  Do not wait in line with U.S. visa applicants.  Show your passport or other type of photo ID and your appointment confirmation sheet to the local People’s Armed Police (Wujing in Chinese), and they will let you in without waiting.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment to allow sufficient time to clear security and enter the waiting room.

Scheduled appointments will be automatically canceled for applicants who arrive more than 15 minutes after their scheduled time.  Applicants who arrive late must make a new appointment via the ACS website.
