US Navy and Marine Corps

Topic
Long Description

Provides workspace for posting and diseminating electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) and spectrum related resources for the Navy and Marine Corps.

Examples of Navy-Marine Frequency Usage

  • Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) is critical to stategic and tactical submarine forces. ELF is used to maintain a worldwide reliable link to the Commander in Chief, Vice President, Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the JCS, and geographic Unified Combatant Commanders.
  • Very Low Frequency (VLF) is the backbone of submarine communication links and carries the majority of message traffic and tactical directions from Fleet Commanders.
  • High Frequency (HF) provides tactical data links for Battle Groups and other Navy and Marine assets. It is also important for allied and coalition force interoperability
  • Very High Frequency (VHF) is used for amphibious/littoral ops, base comm systems, and for bridge-to-bridge, LOS communications. VHF is a critical Navy navigation/communication band that is extensively used by both carrier and shore-based aircraft for air-to-ground comm and ATC. VHF is also used for anti-jamming in ground-to-ground equipment, location reporting devices, frequency hopping systems, and various tactical radio receivers.
