The Turning Point

Everything changed for José after a seemingly ordinary flight home. While on the plane, a passenger required medical assistance, and a nurse stepped up to help. José immediately realized what he wanted to do in life — care for others as a career. As soon as José decided being a nurse practitioner was the best path for him, he applied to nursing programs and was accepted to Yale University.

Opportunities in the Reserve

José began his career in the active-duty Air Force. When he decided that he wanted to be a nurse, he initially considered leaving the Military. After speaking with a recruiter, however, José realized that the Air Force Reserve could both support and complement his goals. Now he is both a student and a Reserve Bioenvironmental Engineering Technician. Since he participates in Reserve training one weekend a month and two weeks a year, he has time for school while learning skills that will serve him well in the future.
