How to: Obtain genomic sequence for/near a gene, marker, transcript or protein
Starting with...
A GENE NAME OR SYMBOL
- Search Gene. If you know the gene symbol and species, enter them as follows: tpo[sym] AND human[orgn].
- Open the desired record.
- Follow these directions: Gene FAQ.
A SEQUENCE ACCESSION NUMBER (e.g. NM_001126)
- Search Nucleotide or Protein with the accession number.
- Follow the link to Gene and proceed as above, or follow the link to Map Viewer.
- In Map Viewer use the Download/View Sequence/Evidence link and adjust the coordinates as desired.
AN mRNA OR PROTEIN SEQUENCE
- Follow an organism-specific link from the BLAST Assembled Genomes section of the BLAST home page.
- Link to the Map Viewer from your search results and download as above.
- For more information, see the Map Viewer Help.
A GENETIC MARKER NAME
- Search Map Viewer with the marker name.
- Once in Map Viewer, zoom to the desired region and click the Download/View Sequence/Evidence link.
- For more information, see the Map Viewer Help.
THE SEQUENCE OF A GENETIC MARKER
- Search the BLAST nucleotide database, dbsts.
- Search UniSTSwith the top hit.
- In the Mapping Information section of the UniSTS record, follow the link to Map Viewer.
- Alternatively, search a BLAST Assembled Genome, follow a BLAST results link into the Map Viewer and click the Download/View Sequence/Evidence link.
A CYTOGENETIC BAND POSITION OR A CHROMOSOME BASE PAIR POSITION
- Go to the Map Viewer page and open the search page for your organism.
- Select the desired chromosome.
- Enter the band or base pair positions in the Region Shown boxes and click Go.
- Click the Download/View Sequence/Evidence link.
