What Is Prototyping?

To better manage, develop, demonstrate and evaluate multi-domain and joint emerging and operational capabilities that address DoD priorities and promote the use and benefits of prototyping throughout the DoD.

Proof-of-principle prototyping validates the technical feasibility of a capability and explores its operational value.

Pre–engineering and manufacturing development prototyping advances capabilities that have already demonstrated some technical and operational promise.

Role of DASD(EC&P)
Role of DASD(EC&P)

Emerging Capability and Prototyping enables the rapid and affordable introduction of new capabilities. The capabilities may respond to an emerging threat, a mission capability gap, or may enhance interoperability or service life of existing systems. Through its three program offices, EC&P has the flexibility to respond quickly and affordably to a broad range of capability challenges.

How Do You Work with Us?

Partnering is vital to our success, and there are many ways we engage with government, science and technology community, and industry partners. Our prototype selection process describes interactions with several types of partnering organizations at each stage of the process.
