    Soldiers and Airmen from the Florida National Guard are staging at Camp Blanding as part of the 3,500 troops activated by Governor Rick Scott. The 164th Air Defense Artillery Brigade's 3-116th are preparing their vehicles and supplies as Soldiers and Airmen move into the Joint Operations Center to help move those assets where they're needed once the storm passes.     U.S. Soldiers with Detachment 1, Bravo Company, 2-238 General Support Aviation Battalion, South Carolina Army National Guard, stage CH-47 Chinook helicopters at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, S.C., during a statewide response to Hurricane Matthew, Oct. 5, 2016. Approximately 1,400 South Carolina National Guard Soldiers and Airmen were activated Oct. 4, 2016. Their primary mission is supporting state and county emergency management agencies and local first responders with coastal evacuations and any services or resources needed to assist the citizens of South Carolina after Governor Nikki Haley declared a State of Emergency.   • Alaska Air Guardsmen rescue man from submerged truck in Cache Creek Aug. 29, 2016

    Members of the Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th, and 212th Rescue Squadrons, and the California Air National Guard’s 130th Rescue Squadron rescued a man who was washed downriver in his truck about 25 miles west of Talkeetna Friday, Aug. 26. Air National Guard assets were deployed for the mission, including an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter with two pararescuemen onboard and an MC-130P Combat Shadow aircraft, which provided aerial refueling in support of the mission.     Illinois Army National Guard accelerates Exercise Anaconda with their long standing relationship with Poland as state partners through the State Partnership Program. This Polish led joint, combined exercise that took place in various locations throughout Poland included more than 1,200 National Guard members from a variety of states, the Army's active component, Reserve Component, and other allied forces to build security, readiness, and interoperability across Europe and between combined forces. Alex Toups, a Mississippi Army National Guardsman who was supposed to be at the competition, but passed away unexpectedly.   • Kansas National Guard fights Anderson Creek Fire with flight March 26-27, 2016

    Four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters piloted and crewed by Kansas Army National Guard Soldiers joined the Anderson Creek wildfire fight March 26. The helicopters arrived in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, March 26 and dropped approximately 124 buckets of water, equating to an estimated total of more than 68,000 gallons, on active flames and hot spots as directed by incident officials March 26-27.     One of the deadliest days in the history of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM involved the downing by enemy fire of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter and the deaths of 30 American service members, including 19 members of Seal Team 6 along with seven Afghan Special Operators on August 6, 2011. The crash also took the lives of the entire crew. Sgt 1st Class Robert Stephenson followed a contingent of Colorado National Guardsmen as they paid their respects to their fallen comrades.     The Maryland Army National Guard's 581st Troop Command hosted its first Norwegian Foot March for Charity, March 16, 2013 in La Plata, Md. There were over 400 participants comprised of U.S. and foreign military branches, and civilians. To qualify, participants followed Norwegian Army foot march standards to include carrying 25 pounds or more of non-perishable food for donation in their ruck sacks, and completing the foot march within specific age and gender limits over a distance of 18.6 miles. The donations will benefit the town of La Plata where the 253rd Engineer Company is located.

    In the event of a natural or man-made disaster members of Hawaii National Guard prove are ready to respond to save lives and provide security. Hawaii’s CERF-P team demonstrated their ability to respond to a mass casualty event in a contaminated area during a recent evaluation, where National Guard Soldiers and Airmen work and in hand to prepare them selves to respond to the unthinkable. CERF-P has special equipment, training and readiness for such an event. While their primary mission of Homeland Defense, they typically respond to earthquakes, floods, or storm cleanup. The teams are trained to locate and extract victims from a contaminated environment, perform mass patient/casualty decontamination, and provide treatment as necessary to stabilize patients for evacuation. The CERF-P teams are a key element of the Department of Defense’s overall program to provide military support to civil authorities in the event of a natural or human-caused disaster.
