Acquisition Update: Coast Guard Accepts Seventh Missionized HC-130J

The Coast Guard accepted delivery of its seventh missionized HC-130J Super Hercules long range surveillance aircraft at Lockheed Martin’s Greenville, South Carolina, plant May 10.
Missionization is the process of installing the Coast Guard-specific integrated radar, sensor and communications systems needed to complete its missions. This aircraft was missionized with the legacy system in use on the five operational HC-130Js in the Coast Guard fleet. An eighth HC-130J is finishing the missionization process, with delivery expected later this year.
CGNR-2007 and CGNR-2008 are the last two HC-130Js to have the legacy mission system installed prior to the Coast Guard upgrading to the Navy’s Minotaur mission system processor. Incorporating Minotaur allows the Coast Guard to standardize its entire fixed-wing fleet while replacing increasingly obsolete components. One Coast Guard Super Hercules is being configured as the Minotaur mission system prototype at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, while another has entered the new missionization program in Waco, Texas.
The Coast Guard’s 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th C-130J aircraft are under contract, with delivery of baseline configuration aircraft beginning in 2017.
