Renewable Energy
New Energy for America
The BLM manages vast stretches of public lands that have the potential to make significant contributions to the nation’s renewable energy portfolio.
By working with local communities, state regulators, industry, and other Federal agencies, the Department of the Interior and the BLM are helping America to build a clean energy future by providing sites for environmentally sound development of renewable energy on public lands. Traditionally, BLM public lands have been home to oil, gas, and coal development, but over the past decade, renewable energy producers have used public lands to generate electricity and get it to the market. As with traditional energy development, the BLM has developed procedures to address environmental and other impacts of these new utility-scale projects on public resources.
