Biography
CAPT F. Thomas Boross
Chief, Auxiliary and Boating Safety

 

CAPT F. Thomas Boross assumed Chief, Auxiliary and Boating Safety duties on 29 JUL 2013.  A career HU-25 fixed wing aviator with broad operational and Aeronautical Engineering Officer experience, CAPT Boross’s prior assignment was as the Aviation Logistic Center’s Executive Officer from June 2010 to June 2013 in Elizabeth City, NC.  He fleeted up to the XO position after serving as ALC’s Chief Engineer since July, 2009.  CAPT F. Thomas BorossPrior to ALC, he served as the Chief, Aviation Resources in the Office of Aeronautical Engineering at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC from 2006 to 2009, where he managed the CG’s largest operating expense account, AFC-41.

Previous assignments include: Aviation Technical Training Center’s Executive Officer from 2001-2005, where he also served as an HU-25 Pilot for the HU-25 Product Line at the Aircraft Repair & Supply Center.  From 1996 to 2001 he served as the Assistant Aeronautical Engineering Officer at CGAS Miami, FL and flew as an HU-25 A & C model Aircraft Commander. Following completion of US Navy flight training in Corpus Christi, TX, and then jet transition training at ATC Mobile, AL in May 1991, CAPT Boross’s first tour in Coast Guard aviation was at CGAS Cape Cod, MA where he served as an HU-25 A & B model Aircraft Commander.

A 1985 graduate of West Virginia University, CAPT Boross initially worked as an audit staff accountant for Deloitte Haskins & Sells in San Diego, CA, until accepting the Chief Financial Officer position for Trident Plastics Inc in Vista, CA in May 1987. Wanting to fly for his country, CAPT Boross left Trident Plastics to report to US Navy Aviation Officer Candidate School in May 1989.  He transferred into the Coast Guard via the Direct Commission Aviator program in January 1991.

CAPT Boross is an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rated aviator, having amassed over 4,500 multi-engine jet mishap free flight hours, and is designated CG Aviator #2949.  A Life Member of the Pterodactyl Association, he is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and in addition to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University, holds a Masters in Public Administration Degree from Old Dominion University.  His military awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Volunteer Service Medal, and numerous other personal and unit awards.

CAPT Boross is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native son of the late Mr. Francis and Mrs. Carol Boross, and a proud graduate of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School.  He is married to the former Sandra Whitney of Munhall, PA, and father of US Coast Guard Ensign Jacob Boross, USCGA 2013, currently serving as a Deck Watch Officer aboard USCGC Forward, and daughter Whitney, a rising junior at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.
