Fifteen years ago, an airplane slammed into the side of the Pentagon as part of the terrorist attacks that would become known simply as 9/11. Not only were military medical personnel critical in treating and saving lives of victims of the attack on the Pentagon, but our military medical forces also responded to ground zero.
We also want to recognize the advancements in the MHS since 9/11. Processes employed since 9/11 continue to improve the medical treatment of Service members, dependents and retirees, and advances in military medicine have enabled wounded, ill and injured Service members to continue service in uniform and in our local communities.
