Long Description

The Academic Center for Aging Aircraft (ACAA) is a partnership between the Texas Center for Applied Technology (TCAT) Aircraft Sustainment Laboratory, the University of Dayton Research Institute and the Georgia Tech Research Institute.

It is the source of information and research solutions for aging aircraft issues. The Center is establishing a framework for information sharing and distribution, and becoming a source of research partnerships that can be rapidly formed to explore research in areas of interest to the Joint Council of Aging Aircraft (JCAA).

It focuses research on issues related to aging aircraft in the military under the guidance and direction of the JCAA.  The JCAA is composed of representatives of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, the FAA and the Defense Logistics Agency.

Its mission is to serve as a resource for sharing knowledge and resources related the sustainment of aging military aircraft.

The ACAA is facilitating new partnerships with universities to expand the research sources available to the JCAA and other agencies and organizations for future aging aircraft projects.

The ACAA intends to expand into a consortium of universities that will facilitate collaboration in research and education by universities, government agencies and commercial firms dealing with the problems of aging aircraft.

Special areas of interest include corrosion, wiring systems, avionics, and dynamic components along with other non-destructive technologies suitable for both military and commercial aircraft.
