Long Description

The UID Policy Office, part of Program Development and Implementation (PDI) under Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy (DPAP) wants you to stay current on implementation progress, announcements and events. This newsletter is just one avenue to keeping you up to date. There are many resources available including web-based toolkits, videos, bi-coastal events, training seminars and online tutorials.

Update
The Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) clause was updated 13 September 2007 with important IUID implications regarding Government Furnished Property (GFP). The interim DFARS 252.211-7007 rule for Item Unique Identification of Government Property requires contractors to provide Property in the Possession of Contractors (PIPC) information to the IUID Registry. Contractor Acquired Property(CAP) is excluded from the Registry and should be submitted only when it becomes GFP and meets the IUID requirements. The contractor is responsible for updating the IUID Registry with information changes – additional details can be found at http://www.acq.osd.mil/dpap/dars/dfars/html/current/252211.htm.

Bringing DoD Personnel, Service Representatives and Industry Together
The UID & eBusiness Forum will be conducted 7-9 September 2010 in Orlando, FL. Future forums will bring together attendees, speakers and exhibitors for instruction, expert guidance and technology demonstrations. This event helps the audience to quickly sort through the technical, policy, standards and business-process details of IUID and eBusiness.

Please visit http://www.uidforum.com/ for future event details.

Landmark Status
The IUID Registry has reached over 2 million registered items! The 2 millionth item, a front axel embedded within the M1117 Guardian Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) was submitted by Textron Marine and Land Systems, an operating unit of Textron Inc. The IUID Registry received the information via XML submission. Textron Inc is a multi-industry company founded in 1923 with strong brands such as Bell Helicopter and Cessna Aircraft. Continue to check the website http://www.textronmarineandland.com/ frequently for updates regarding IUID and Guardian Armored Security Vehicles.

Item Unique Identification Road Show
U.S. Army's Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) in Warren, MI, sponsored the first Item Unique Identification (IUID) Road Show. The purpose of this event was to provide an understanding of the IUID requirement at the implementation level.

The event included three phases including presentations and dialogue with audience members, training modules, and technology demonstrations. The first portion of the event was opened by Ms. Janet Bean, Executive Director Integrated Logistics Support Center, who was followed by the keynote speaker Ms. LeAntha Sumpter, Deputy Director Program Development and Implementation, DPAP. In addition, Mr. Paul Krumhaus, Principal Analyst, PM J-AIT (Joint - Automatic Identification Technology) discussed TACOM LCMC partnership; Mr. Greg Kilchenstein, OSD (AT&L) MR&MP spoke on IUID/SIM Implementation within the DoD Maintenance Enterprise; and COL Christopher Wicker, Chief of Staff TACOM LCMC, closed the presentation sessions.

The second phase consisted of 23 training modules supported by DAU, DCMA, AMCOM, and TACOM Project Offices, including the following topics: 1) Contracting 2) Program and Budget Management 3) Government Property in Possession of Contractors 4) Wide Area Workflow and 5) Logistics. Cargo Helicopters and Robotic Systems Joint Project Office also presented on the nuts and bolts of IUID implementation.

The third component consisted of technology demonstrations, including marking machines and software.

This event trained more than 600 employees onsite at TACOM and another 75 from the distant sites participating via digital television, including Ft. Belvoir, Rock Island, Natick, and ARDEC/Picatinny, NJ.

WAWF is the only electronic method that will allow electronic payment submission of all types of invoicing, and it has been enhanced to support property transfers for items already registered in the IUID Registry. For additional information and Web-based training on the Property Transfer functionality within WAWF, please visit https://wawf.eb.mil/. Select the link "About WAWF" and then click on "Access Web-based training."

The UID Policy Office and the ACAT 1D programs have been working closely together implementing IUID requirements; nearly 100% of ACAT 1D programs have successfully submitted and are implementing approved IUID plans.

To provide additional learning opportunities on IUID Data and IUID Registry functionalities, a tutorial has been developed. This training tutorial will provide critical into the IUID Registry basic functionality, data submission methods and Wide Area Workflow (WAWF).

A number of resources are available to assist organizations with their implementation of IUID requirements. These include:
