Micro-Purchases

Topic

Long Description

Definition: A Micro-Purchase is a Government purchase (supplies or services) under the dollar value of $3,000.00 ($2,000.00 for Construction). [FAR 13.2; DFAR 232.1108] The purchase is paid by credit card. It is a distinctively designed card and identified for Official Government Use Only. The credit card affords authorized buyers a way to pay for over-the-counter purchases or telephone purchases less than $3,000.00 when the supplies or services are immediately available and a single delivery and payment will be made.

Application: A Micro-Purchase does not require competition and is normally conducted informally. An internationally accepted credit card allows an authorized cardholder to make small purchases under an established Delegation of Authority. It is intended to supplement and simplify established Small Purchase procedures; and is designed to minimize cost/administrative burden and reduce procurement lead-time.

Limitation: Credit card use is the preferred method for items under $3,000.00.
