Risk Implementation

Implementation of risk management processes helps clarify what ongoing actions should be taken beyond planning to assure the risk process is implemented in manner which provides benefit to the management team.  This step helps assure you get the biggest bang for the buck invested in the risk and other management processes utilized.  Additionally, the implementation section provides best practices and suggestions for tailoring given the size and complexity of a program.

Risk Process Implementation focuses on the process and not on the particular risks of a program.   This should be ongoing and focus on the performance of the overall process and how it is integrated with the other metrics that measure the management processes in a program.   (see Risk Process Diagram)

This section is broken up into several parts which relate to issues that should have been addressed in the planning step.  In this step, a continuous assessment is needed so the planned process can be adjusted as needed.   

Organizations attempting to implement a formal structured approach to risk management need to treat the implementation itself as a project, requiring clear objectives and success criteria, proper planning and resourcing, and effective monitoring and control.
