CMS Awards $66.1 Million in American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Florida to Fight Zika

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced $66.1 million in funding to health departments in American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Florida to help combat the Zika virus. Congress authorized this funding in the Continuing Appropriations and Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017, and Zika Response and Preparedness Act (P.L. 114-223).

New Participants Join Several CMS Alternative Payment Models

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced over 359,000 clinicians are confirmed to participate in four of CMS’s Alternative Payment Models (APMs) in 2017. Clinicians who participate in APMs are paid for the quality of care they give to their patients. APMs are an important part of the Administration’s effort to build a system that delivers better care and one in which clinicians work together to have a full understanding of patients’ needs. APMs also strive to ensure that patients are in the center of their care, and that Medicare pays for what works and spends taxpayer money more wisely resulting in a healthier country.

The Department of Health and Human Services released today new information that shows that millions of seniors and people with disabilities with Medicare continue to save on prescription drugs and see improved benefits in 2016 as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

Pennsylvania Rural Health Model aims to help rural hospitals improve quality, address community health needs

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Pennsylvania announced the Pennsylvania Rural Health Model, a new initiative of the CMS Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Innovation Center). The Model is designed to improve health and health care in rural Pennsylvania under an agreement signed by Governor Tom Wolf and Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Karen Murphy.

Outpacing last year, more than 11.5 million people are signed up for Marketplace coverage

A new report released today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) shows that more than 11.5 million people nationwide were signed up for Health Insurance Marketplace coverage as of December 24, 2016, an increase of 286,000 plan selections relative to the comparable period last year. In addition, more than 700,000 New Yorkers and Minnesotans also signed up for 2017 coverage through their states Basic Health Programs (BHPs), bringing the total signed up for coverage through either the Marketplace or a BHP to 12.
