DriveSmart: Addressing driving safety and congestion through innovative roadway designs and smart technologies that make driving safer, help relieve congestion and improve mobility.
In partnership with the Georgia DOT’s DriveAlert ArriveAlive campaign, Allstate “Reality Rides®” is making a pit-stop in Atlanta on its tour of 25 cities across America. Reality Rides is a distracted driving simulator that aims to prevent these avoidable collisions. In its third year, the campaign builds awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and offers tips and information on how to be safer behind the wheel.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), our neighbor Department has closed an almost 70-mile section of I-95 between Florence, South Carolina and I-26. SCDOT will also shut down sections of other interstates around Columbia, South Carolina. SCDOT officials are trying their best to keep the traffic re-routed on interstate systems within the state network.
I-95 southbound traffic will be diverted onto I-20 and to Columbia. Motorists will travel around Columbia on I-77 and then back down I-26 towards Charleston to reconnect to I-95. The reverse will work for I-95 northbound. SCDOT has also announced they are rerouting a short section of I-20 within the Columbia area to I-77. Transportation officials are battling flood conditions, while trying to keep some kind of traffic movement happening around Columbia.
One lane will close on Old Alabama Road to allow Georgia Power crews to install new power lines. The lane closure will take place every Saturday starting on Saturday, September 26 until Saturday, November 14, 2015. The lane closure will be in place from 8AM until 5PM.
The lane closure is likely to result in delays. Motorists who travel through the area are advised to slow down and proceed with caution. Workers and heavy equipment will be in close proximity to the roadway.

The new Flex Lane is now open for motorists on I-85 northbound from State Route 140/Jimmy Carter Blvd, Exit 99 to Indian Trail Road, Exit 101. The lane is only open to motorists, Monday through Friday from 3pm to 7pm.

Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) is a FREE peer-to-peer safety program designed to reduce the frequency of fatal crashes involving teen drivers by targeting young people behind the wheel. Georgia DOT and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) have partnered together and developed safety messages surrounding the five major causes of accidents: Driving at Night, Speeding and Racing, Distractions, Seat Belt Usage and Drugs and Alcohol
