FVS Instructor-Led Training

Picture of an FVS training class in progress showing students working with FVS exercises on their PCs.

The objective of the training is to introduce the concepts of vegetation growth and yield modeling, specifically the use of the Forest Vegetation Simulator and its Extensions. Training will emphasize the capabilities of FVS in simulating forest management and its impacts on forest structure, fire behavior and carbon accounting. These classes are appropriate for silviculturists, foresters, fire and fuels managers, ecologists, wildlife biologists, entomologists, pathologists, forest analysts, GIS specialists, forest planners, and any others interested in forest structure, composition and management.

We annually offer training sessions, scheduling the sessions during the months of October through April, offered throughout the United States. Courses are tuition free (except Sacramento, approximately $300). We do our best to accommodate non-Forest Service employees when space is available. Classes typically are a week long, beginning Monday at 1:00 p.m. and ending Friday at noon. Our classes typically fill-up quickly, so register early and please plan to attend the whole week.
