Description:

The broad purpose of the Postsecondary and Adult Education topic area is to support research that will lead to better student education outcomes at the college level (i.e., students in grades 13 through 16 working on certificates or associate's or bachelor's degrees) and in adult education programs (i.e., students in adult English language programs or adult literacy programs including Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, and GED preparation programs).

Through this topic, the Institute is interested in increasing student access to, persistence in, progress through, and completion of postsecondary and adult education programs as well as improving specific academic outcomes for students in developmental education, adult education, gateway science and math courses, and introductory composition courses.

The long-term outcome of this program will be an array of tools and strategies (e.g., practices, assessments, programs, policies) that have been documented to be effective for improving education outcomes of postsecondary students at the college level and adult learners.
