Special Assistant to the Director of the Army National Guard

Brigadier General James P. Wong

Brigadier General James P. Wong is currently serving as Special Assistant to the Director, Army National Guard Bureau. He represents the Director in forums at the State level, Headquarters Department of the Army, Office of the Secretary of Defense and other governmental agencies, public meetings and conferences. He provides policy recommendations to the Director on high priority programs such as Personnel Readiness, Medical Readiness, Recruiting and Retention, Morale Welfare and Recreation, Policies Programs and Plans for sustainment of the National Guard's Force of Citizen-Soldiers serving in 54 states and territories.

General Wong was commissioned in 1984 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. General Wong has served in a variety of key command and staff positions at the platoon through The Joint Chief of Staff level, to include Executive Officer, Detachment Commander, Tactical Officer, Personnel and Operations Officer, G-3 Plans Officer, Battalion Commander, deployed as the Chief Embedded Training Team with Afghanistan National Army, Chief of Staff- Maneuver Support Center, and Reserve Component Advisor J-8 The Joint Staff. He deployed as the Chief National Guard Affairs Team to United States Forces - Afghanistan, and then assigned as Senior National Guard Advisor to United States Army Europe prior to his last assignment as the Future Operations Division Chief, J-35 National Guard Bureau.

General Wong served as an enlisted member of C Company, 330th Engineer Battalion. He served in the United States Army Reserve for seven years prior to transferring to Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
