Four-time Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah has been assured by the British Foreign office he can return to the U.S.

Farah, who belongs to the Portland-based Nike Oregon Project training group, is a Somali-born British citizen. He and his family reside in Portland, although Farah currently is in Ethiopia training at altitude.

He had posted to Facebook on Sunday his fears that President Trump's executive order blocking refugees from Syria and citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the U.S., might prevent him from returning to Portland.

British foreign secretary Boris Johnson reportedly held high-level talks with presidential advisor Jared Kushner resulting in assurances that those with British passports will be exempt from the ban.

A spokesman for Farah told the BBC the distance runner was grateful for the clarification but "still fundamentally disagrees with this incredibly divisive and discriminatory policy."
