State Affairs

State-based initiatives have a direct and increasingly dramatic impact on the biodiesel industry.  State level regulatory officials across the country are both creating opportunities for biodiesel and erecting barriers.  State level activity remains high due to implementation of several statewide biodiesel/Bioheat® mandates, low carbon fuel standards, and state issues related to RFS-2 implementation.

The National Biodiesel Board State Governmental Affairs program focuses primarily on regulatory activity at the state level.  National Biodiesel Board staff members are frequently called upon to provide expertise for rulemaking efforts on issues such as low carbon fuel standards, statewide mandates, underground storage tank rules, measures to control criteria pollutants, and U.S. EPA Clean Air Attainment issues.
