Forests Defined

Although often used interchangeably, there are differences between forests and woodlands. Both have trees, but forests have numerous trees whose branches and limbs interlock to form a closed canopy. Woodlands also have a canopy, but there are many open spaces in woodlands and the density of trees is much less.
