The red wolf viewing area at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Red Wolf Healthcare and Education Facility, is now available for public tours and visits.  This site hosts a building that allows field and health assessment of red wolves as well as multiple outdoor enclosures and holding pens for animals waiting for translocation or receiving medical care.  The Red Wolf Coalition obtained the necessary funds for the red wolf viewing facility from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development and from a generous gift from the North Carolina Zoological Society. This funding allowed creation of a natural environment enclosure designed to showcase a pair of captive red wolves to the visiting public.

The Red Wolf Coalition will be hosting educational and recreational events at the facility throughout the summer and fall.  As red wolves are difficult to observe in the wild, this is a great opportunity to see wolves and hear more about their biology. The site is part of the nearby Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge; you could also tour the refuge visitor center or visit different habitats on the refuge.
