Get started

You wouldn’t set off on a family road trip without making a few preparations first, right? A little bit of planning goes a long way to ensuring success. The same goes for creating an energy program.

First, study the road map for your trip with the ENERGY STAR Guidelines for Energy Management. These guidelines are based on the best practices of thousands of successful partners and represent the industry standard when it comes to saving energy.

Second, get buy-in. After all, one person can’t do it all. Having the support of senior-level executives and program staff will help ensure energy efficiency becomes a core business practice that continues to drive savings, year after year.

Once everyone is onboard, make a commitment to getting there. Not just a half-hearted “hey, let’s give this a shot and see what happens” but an actual commitment to improving efficiency. The kind that includes aggressive yet realistic goals and motivates you to try harder, dig deeper, look for solutions, and never quit.

And lastly, figure out your starting point. By assessing your current energy program, you can figure out where you are … and where you want to go.

Start today! Our biggest struggle, throughout the course of the project, was getting the project off the ground. However, once we started making small initial changes, everything started to snowball, and we began making noticeable strides toward our energy conservation goals.
