The Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs Office (WIP) collaborates with state and local governments, tribes, and K-12 school district leaders to help advance clean energy. Learn more below about who we are and what we do.
What We Do
For decades, WIP has laid the foundation that helps state and local clean energy programs succeed. Our State Energy Program supports energy efficiency activities in all 50 states and in U.S. territories, while our Weatherization Assistance Program supports the most effective U.S. energy efficiency program to serve low-income families.
Our State and Local Solution Center provides a central location for resources, events, and technical assistance that can help state and local leaders unlock their clean energy economy.
WIP activities and programs focus on issues that directly affect state and local leaders, such as economic development in rural areas or how renewable energy and energy efficiency projects can improve air quality.
We provide support by:
- Facilitating the adoption of technologies developed by the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
- Sponsoring activities in the buildings, electric power, industry, and transportation sectors and helping state and local agencies improve their energy efficiencies by upgrading public facilities. Our programs also educate the public, teachers, and students about the benefits of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
- Partnering and consulting regularly with the National Association of State Energy Officials, the National Governors Association, the National Council of State Legislatures, the National Association for State Community Services Programs, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the National Association of Counties, and state and local energy stakeholders.
