The mercury cycle starts when mercury containing lamps (fluorescent and HID) are tossed into the general refuse. The trash is sent to a municipal landfill where exposed mercury leaches into the ground and ultimately our water supply. The fish and animals absorb the mercury and pass it up the food chain. Prolonged exposure to mercury can cause significant heatlth problems.
