OHA Named Co-trustee of Papahanaumokuakea Marine National MonumentGov. David Ige, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) and the U.S. Secretaries of Interior and Commerce have signed an updated Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) adding OHA as a co-trustee of Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument. It is the largest, contiguous, fully protected conservation area in the U.S. and encompasses 583,000 square miles of ocean waters, including ten islands and atolls in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. |

Washington Awarded $4.7 Million in Coastal Wetland Grants for Six ProjectsSix critical coastal wetland projects in Washington have been awarded $4.7 million through the Service’s National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grants Program. The projects range from estuary restoration and protection in Puget Sound to habitat protection along the Washington coast. “In addition to providing essential habitat for migratory birds, fish, shellfish, and many threatened and endangered species, these coastal areas are essential to coastal communities and act as a buffer against extreme weather events.” - Robyn Thorson, Pacific Regional Director. |
