The National Park Service turned 100 on August 25, 2016, and the entire year was quite a celebration! Throughout 2016, hundreds of millions of you ventured out to Find Your Park-learning, discovering, getting inspired, or simply having fun in national parks. Thank you for joining us!

National parks across the system engaged in a variety of activities to prepare for and celebrate the centennial. Chesapeake Bay was a big part of this effort. Take a look at what we did and join us as the National Park Service enters a new century in 2017!

  • Restoring Urban Waterways with the Chesapeake Youth Corps

    Maryland’s Montgomery County Conservation Corps is partnering with the NPS Chesapeake Youth Corps network to expand working opportunities for MCCC youth in environmental sciences. Read more

  • NPS Chesapeake Bay Office and its Tourism Training Program

    The NPS Chesapeake Bay Office was awarded a $90,000 grant to develop a training program for interpretive guides and front-line staff along the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail. Read more

  • Chesapeake Youth Corps and Universal Access

    The list of accomplishments for partners in the NPS-led Chesapeake Youth Corps has grown in 2013, and includes installation of a universally accessible kayak launch at Bladensburg Waterfront Park on the Anacostia River in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Read more

  • Chesapeake Youth Corps Helps Partners Build All-Sensory Trail

    Over 3 weeks in summer, 2013, Chesapeake Youth Corps partners at the Anne Arundel County (MD) Recreation and Parks Department designed and constructed an all-sensory trail with the help of youth corps participants. Read more

  • Chesapeake Youth Corps on the Star-Spangled Banner Trail

    In the federal Strategy for Protecting and Restoring the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, the NPS Chesapeake Bay office made a commitment to the development of Chesapeake Conservation Corps workforces, particularly of youth. In summer, 2012, NPS partner Parks & People Foundation employed a team of five youth for maintenance projects in Baltimore, MD, along the Star-Spangled Banner Trail. They also toured Baltimore sites along the trail and enjoyed new recreational experiences. Read more
