Data Hosting: Accessing non-NCHS Restricted Data through the RDC
When NCHS considered how to make its restricted data accessible to researchers, it chose the data enclave model and started the Research Data Center. This mechanism allows researchers to access restricted data in a secure environment. In short, researchers can answer public health research questions while the confidentiality of the respondents is maintained.
Given the existing infrastructure of the NCHS RDC and experience in protecting data, other data owners have expressed an interest in making their restricted data available through the RDC. We call this Data Hosting.
Currently, the RDC hosts restricted data for these groups:
CDC’s National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR)
CDC’s Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
AHRQ’s Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS)
For information about the data, see link above. Modes of access, fees, and some other RDC procedures may differ between the various data sets.
DHHS groups interested in having their restricted data hosted by the NCHS RDC should contact Peter Meyer, RDC Director rdca@cdc.gov.
