The ELI Database of State IAQ Laws is a compilation of laws, updated annually, that reflects a wide range of state policy strategies to improve IAQ.

What Types of Policy Documents are Included in the Database? The Database contains enacted state laws. In many cases, regulations or guidance documents established pursuant to individual laws are noted. The Database does not include federal or local IAQ laws.
What IAQ Issues are Covered by the Database? The Database includes laws that address a variety of pollutants, practices, and building types. The aim of the Database is to show the different types of policy strategies states have employed, rather than the number of policies enacted. Given the multi-faceted nature of IAQ issues, the Database cannot include all IAQ-related laws, and some highly-regulated issues (e.g., lead paint, asbestos, secondhand smoke) are excluded from the database.
Highlights from the 2015 calendar year update include:
- A California law amending the state housing code to include "visible mold growth" as a substandard condition.
- A revised Colorado sanitation regulation for child care facilities that requires radon testing and prohibits the use of scent-enhanced products.
- A New Hampshire law that requires third-party certification of residential mold assessment professionals.
What other Information on IAQ Policy does ELI Provide? ELI provides a variety of other materials on state IAQ laws. In addition to reports with in-depth analysis, ELI publishes several policy briefs that are updated regularly as new state laws are enacted.
