Welcome to the The Potomac River Test Range Website. This page provides daily information about the operations and scheduling of activities at the Potomac River Test Range and the Explosive Experimental Area (Pumpkin Neck). These facilities are used by our military to conduct munitions testing and should be avoided while testing is in progress. Noise Advisory for NSWC Dahlgren range testing, October 18-28, 2016:

NSWC Dahlgren will conduct range testing October 18-28, 2016 from 8a.m. - 5p.m.  Testing has potential to produce very loud noise in communities surrounding NSF Dahlgren.  Access to the Potomac River Middle Danger Zone (MDZ), as described in 33 CFR 334.230, will be restricted during testing.

Monday, 17 October 2016
  • Testing at Main Range/Operations in Building 1180/Testing at EEA/Boat Operations on the PRTR
  • Operating Times: 0800-1700
  • Noise on Station: Potential to create "SOME" noise down range and in communities surrounding NSF Dahlgren
  • River Restrictions: Restricted down range to the "N" buoy on the Virginia side and the "O" buoy on the Maryland side
  • Roads Closed on Station: Tisdale Road, River Bank Road, Fuze Road
  • Barricades Closed on Station: Main Range and AAFR barricades
  • Other Notifications: None.
Tuesday - Friday, 18-21 October 2016
  • Testing at Shock Tube Road/Testing at EEA/Boat Operations on the PRTR
  • Operating Times: 0800-1700
  • Noise on Station: Potential to create "VERY LOUD" noise in the northern (C-Gate) area of NSF Dahlgren
  • Noise Down Range: Potential to create "VERY LOUD" noise down range and in communities surrounding NSF Dahlgren
  • River Restrictions: Restricted down range to the "J" buoy on the Virginia side and the "K" buoy on the Maryland side
  • Roads Closed on Station: Tisdale Road, Caskey Road, Higley Road, Shock Tube Road
  • Barricades Closed on Station: Upper Gambo Creek gate, Lower Gambo Creek gate, Frontage Road gate, Building 1470 gate
