NAVSEA Class 2 ETM DTD - History
The NAVSEA Class 2 ETM DTD is based on a DTD originally created August 14, 1993 at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for the Navy Gas Turbine Systems IETM. This DTD was a subset of MIL-M-38784C in compliance with MIL-M-28001B. Representative parties included:
  • NSWCCD-David Taylor Model Basin
  • Knolls Atomic Power Lab
  • Electric Boat
  • Martin Marietta Ocean Systems
The original DTD (named Philly 1) went through modifications by Ray Leggiero of Martin Marietta Company and Bernhard J. Scholz of GE Corporate Research and Development. These modifications became the Philly 2 DTD dated January 10, 1994.

Through cooperation between NAVSEA, Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division-David Taylor Model Basin, and Martin Marietta, Syracuse, the initial NAVSEA Class 2 ETM DTD dated September 14, 1994 was finalized. A copy of this DTD can be downloaded from this server.

The September 14, 1994 DTD was in effect from 9/14/94 to 7/13/95. The September 14, 1994 DTD was then modified in accordance with 24 March 1995 comments from Litton Data Systems and endorsed by NAVSEA 04TD. Thus the NAVSEA Class 2 ETM Revision A DTD dated July 14, 1995 was born. The modifications and DTD are downloadable. The July 14, 1995 DTD was in effect from 7/14/95 to 8/13/95.

The July 14, 1995 DTD was then modified in accordance with changes required by QED, NAVSSES, and AERA and endorsed by NAVSEA 04TD for NAVSEA MIL-STD-38784-like ETMS. Thus the NAVSEA Class 2 ETM Revision B DTD dated August 14, 1995 was born. The modifications and DTD are downloadable.

The August 14, 1995 DTD was in effect from 8/14/95 to 8/29/96. The August 14, 1995 DTD was then modified (1) to make a NAVSEA Class 2 DTD Revision that was as downward compatible as possible so that the majority of instances tagged to the four previous NAVSEA DTDs would parse against the revised DTD, and (2) in accordance with changes submitted by the following organizations: NSWCCD-DTMB Code 2053, NSWCCD-SSES Code 1351, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Detachment Boston, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Code 411, Lockheed Martin Corporation - Syracuse, and Electric Boat. NAVSEA 043 endorsed this revision for NAVSEA MIL-STD-38784-like ETMS, thus the NAVSEA Class 2 ETM Revision C DTD dated August 30, 1996 was born. The modifications and DTD are downloadable. The Rev C DTD is the current version approved by NAVSEA 043 for use in Class 2 ETM work begun after August 30, 1996.
