What is your vision for a sustainable future?  Join our live interactive webcasts of the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), which will take place on Friday, June 15-22, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  The U.S. Center will bring this conference to you live through 11 featured events.  Get a front-row seat and learn about Creating the Future We Want!

Rio+ 20 is an international conference where world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector and NGO community will come together to discuss important youth, technology, and sustainable development initiatives.  Their goal is to shape how we can work together to reduce poverty, advance social issues, and ensure environmental protection in an ever more crowded planet.

Women and Natural Resources

Description: It is critical to good governance to understand women‘s distinct roles in natural resource management, but very often a heavy burden of domestic and economic responsibilities as well as socio-cultural factors limit their participation in community activities. This limitation has kept women politically and culturally marginalized from decision making structures that affect their access to the very resources upon which they depend. Join USAID in a discussion to identify gender-based constraints and opportunities as well as strategies for addressing them at community, national, and international policy levels.
