Why Our Work Matters…
Countries with democratic freedoms are more capable of fulfilling their citizens' potential.
Democracy and Governance programs in Iraq encourage the integration of democratic principles into all levels of Iraqi government—national, provincial and local—to enhance the lives of Iraqis throughout the country.
USAID's Democracy and Governance program in Iraq works with the Government of Iraq to:
- Promote good governance by improving the capacity of the public sector;
- Expand political competition and consensus building; and
- Strengthen civil society organizations to enhance civic participation.
