Gateway West Transmission Line Project

Idaho Power and Rocky Mountain Power have submitted a right of way (ROW) application to locate the Gateway West Transmission Line on public lands in Idaho.

A Record of Decision (ROD) has been issued for the Gateway West Project.

The decision grants rights-of-way (ROWs) to Rocky Mountain Power and Idaho Power to build and operate 321 miles of 500-kilovolt transmission lines on BLM-managed public lands in Gooding, Elmore, Owyhee, Cassia and Twin Falls counties in Idaho.

Mitigation

The decision requires compensatory mitigation for impacts to the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey NCA indirect effects to Greater sage-grouse habitat and other important, scarce or sensitive resources such as the Oregon-California National Historic Trail.

The mitigation requirements apply the Department of the Interior's Mitigation Hierarchy by prioritizing avoidance of adverse impacts.  Unavoidable impacts are then minimized to reduce or eliminate effects over time.  Compensatory mitigation is required for residual effects to important, scarce or sensitive resources.
