Environmental issues such as climate change, the protection of natural resources and forests, and transboundary pollution will continue to play increasingly critical roles in U.S. diplomatic and development agendas. USAID remains committed to promoting partnerships for economic development that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and create other co-benefits by using and developing markets to improve energy efficiency, enhance conservation and biodiversity, and expand low carbon energy sources.

Earth's average temperature has risen by 1.4°F over the past century, and is projected to rise another 2 to 11.5°F over the next hundred years.
Through Branch Canal Water Users Associations, farmers participate in irrigation management and share responsibility for canal maintenance – a concept promoted by USAID programs.

During FY 2011, Egypt underwent a revolution and transition toward a democratic republic. The revolution directly and indirectly impacted our activities in Egypt. Host-country counterparts shifted. The U.S. worked to ensure that our programs were responding to the emerging needs expressed by Egyptians in the immediate aftermath of the revolution.
