Two upcoming webinars focus on issues of energy storage on Friday, January 20 and Wednesday, January 25, 2012.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Iowa Stored Energy Park (ISEP) are conducting a free, 1-hour webinar, Lessons from Iowa: The Economic, Market, and Organizational Issues in Making Bulk Energy Storage Work, on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 1 p.m. EST. Presenters include Dr. Imre Gyuk of DOE’s Office of Electricity Deliverability and Energy Reliability and Bob Schulte from ISEP.

Funded by a DOE grant and managed by Sandia National Laboratories, ISEP’s 270 Megawatt compressed air energy storage (CAES) project yielded valuable insights on the development of facilities for use by other entities exploring utility-scale bulk energy storage. Most of the lessons are independent of geology and storage technology.

Additional details, including how to register, are available from the webinar announcement.

Dr. Imre Gyuk also will be one of five featured speakers in a webinar hosted jointly by DOE and the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) on Federal Regulatory Energy Storage Policy on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 1 – 2:30 p.m. EST. The webinar will review federal regulations for energy storage, particularly Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order 755, FERC Order 890, and other aspects of FERC treatment of energy storage and how it affects various entities.

Online registration for this webinar is available.

This webinar is the second in a series exploring the national and state landscape for energy storage as part of the Energy Storage Technology Advancement Partnership between DOE’s Energy Storage Systems Program and CESA. The presentation from the first webinar, Energy Storage in State RPSs, is available for download.
