Homelessness

ACF Programs and Services for Homelessness

People Experiencing or At Risk for Homelessness

If you are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, or know someone who is homeless, help is available.

Runaway and Homeless Youth

ACF supports street outreach, emergency shelters, and longer-term transitional living and maternal group home programs to serve and protect runaways and homeless youth.

LGBT Youth Homelessness

Learn more about ACF’s efforts to collect and assess emerging practices responding to the needs of LGBTQ homeless youth.

Family Homelessness

Each year, hundreds of thousands of American families face homelessness, including more than 1.6 million children. ACF is committed to helping families experiencing or at-risk for homelessness by connecting them to much-needed support services.

Early Care and Education for Homeless Children

Several federal policies and programs are in place to strengthen the ability of early care and education (ECE) providers to serve young children experiencing homelessness.

Domestic Violence and Homelessness

Domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families in the United States. It is devastating and costly for the families we serve as well as for the local communities striving to help anyone in crisis.

Homeless Veterans

ACF has a number of activities and initiatives as an active partner in interagency efforts to address homelessness among veterans.

Federal Partners and Interagency Efforts

Opening Doors is the nation’s first comprehensive Federal strategy to prevent and end homelessness.  ACF is working with other federal agencies and partners to implement the Federal response so that every community will have a systematic response in place that ensures homelessness is prevented whenever possible or is otherwise a rare, brief, and non-recurring experience.
