How Applicants Are Selected, Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO)

Admission to the program is highly competitive. Up to 20 outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and medical students will be selected to participate in INRO. Qualified applicants will be reviewed and evaluated by a panel of NIAID scientists. NIAID does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

How are participants selected?

The selection committee, consisting of NIAID scientists, will evaluate applicants on the following basis:

  • Achievements, such as prior participation in laboratory research, extracurricular science activities, or other activities deemed relevant
  • Two letters of reference (applications lacking the two letters of reference will not be considered)
  • Academic achievements and grade point average.

If I have been selected, what should I do?
