Around the world, 36.7 million people live with HIV/AIDS. A worldwide goal is to end AIDS by 2030.

Consider our progress since the AIDS epidemic began 35 years ago:

  • AIDS-related deaths have fallen by 45 percent since the 2005 peak.
  • The rate of new HIV infections among adults has stopped increasing, although it’s still at an estimated 1.9 million per year.
  • The number of HIV-infected people with access to antiretroviral therapy reached 18 million this year, up from 7.5 million in 2010.

But remember the most important number is zero. Get the facts about HIV transmission and prevention, and do your part to end AIDS by 2030.
