The Nuclear Energy Enabling Technologies Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation program, in coordination with the Office of Nuclear Reactor Technologies and the Office of Fuel Cycle Technologies, conducted an Instrumentations and Controls webinar on October 12-13, 2016. This webinar provided an opportunity to review the research and development being conducted in the areas of sensors, controls, communications, digital instrumentation, human-machine technologies, and related areas across the Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) and to promote greater coordination among the various NE Research & Development programs.

The purpose of this meeting was to review the currently funded projects encompassing additive manufacturing, welding and joining technologies, concrete materials and rebar innovations, surface modification and cladding processes, and imaging techniques for design reconstruction.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) addresses the competitive portion of NE’s R&D portfolio as executed through the Nuclear Energy University Programs (NEUP) and Nuclear Energy Enabling Technologies Crosscutting Technology Development (NEET CTD). NEUP utilizes up to 20 percent of funds appropriated to NE’s R&D program for university-based infrastructure support and R&D in key NE program-related areas: Fuel Cycle Research and Development (FCR&D), Reactor Concepts Research, Development and Demonstration (RCRD&D), and Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NEAMS). NEET CTD supports national laboratory, university and industry led crosscutting research in the areas of reactor materials, advanced sensors and instrumentation, and advanced methods for manufacturing.
